  1. Lan Automatic Inventory V 3.13
  2. A Quick Installation Guide
  3.  
  4. The following file versions are recommended for LAN Automatic Inventory 
  5. installation and use
  6.  
  7.     IPX version 3.10
  8.     NETX version 3.26 or greater
  9.     VIPX version 1.13
  10.     NETWARE.DRV version 2.02
  11.     VNETWARE.386 version 1.06
  12.  
  13. If you are using ODI Drivers instead of IPX, you must have :
  14.  
  15.     LSL version 1.2 (2.01) is recommended
  16.     IPXODI.COM version 1.2 (2.01) is recommended.
  17.  
  18.  
  19. To install Lan Automatic Inventory, you must also:
  20.     
  21. 1.      Be logged in as a SUPERVISOR or equivalent
  22. 2.      Run Windows 3.1 in enhanced mode or Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
  23. 3.      Have the following line in the [386enh] section of your SYSTEM.INI file :
  24.         network=*vnetbios, vnetware.386, vipx.386
  25. 4.      Have a drive mapped to your system volume.
  26. 5.      Have a minimum of 14379K of free disk space; recommended is 24414K. 
  27.  
  28. INSTALLING LAN AUTOMATIC INVENTORY :
  29.  
  30. 1.      Verify that you have a drive letter mapped to to SYS volume for
  31.     the file server on which you are installing Lan Automatic Inventory.
  32.  
  33. 2.      Start Windows in enhanced mode.
  34.  
  35. 3.      Choose RUN from the Program Manager FILE menu. Click on Browse and
  36.     select SETUP.EXE from the drive letter corresponding to your CD-ROM 
  37.     and select OK.
  38.  
  39. 4.      From the CHOOSE SERVER dialog box, select the server on which
  40.     you want to install Lan Automatic Inventory, and click on the OK 
  41.     button. 
  42.  
  43. 5.      Select one of the following install options :
  44.     BASIC INSTALL - installs with minimal user input. This will create 
  45.     the McAfee  program group containing the Lan Automatic Inventory and 
  46.     Crystal Reports program and Readme file icons.
  47.     UPGRADE - allows you to automatically upgrade from previous versions 
  48.     of Lan Automatic Inventory with minimal user input.
  49.  
  50.     N.B.    The installation procedure allows you to specify a drive 
  51.         letter that is mapped to a different server than the one 
  52.         you originally chose.
  53.         
  54. BASIC Installation
  55.  
  56. 6a.     Enter the full path name to where Lan Automatic Inventory should be
  57.     installed, and choose the OK  button. N.B. The drive letter and full 
  58.     directory must coincide with the file sever you selected earlier. Lan 
  59.     Automatic Inventory will create the directory if it does not exist. 
  60.     The default drive letter is the first one found on the server you 
  61.     specified and LANINV is the default directory.
  62.     From this point on you will be prompted to insert the remaining disks 
  63.     to complete the installation.
  64.  
  65. 7a.     Enter your company name, and choose the OK button. 
  66.     The company name must be between 1 and 20 characters in length.
  67.  
  68. 8a.     Choose the OK button in the information box indicating the successful                   
  69.     installation of  Lan Automatic Inventory. View the Readme file for 
  70.     any updated product information. 
  71.  
  72. 9a.     A dialog box displays asking you if you want to restart Windows at 
  73.     this point. You must restart Windows to enable the changes that Lan 
  74.     Automatic Inventory made. 
  75.     Choose the YES button to restart Windows.
  76.  
  77. UPGRADE
  78.  
  79. The Upgrade Install offers you several options. You can either  
  80. a.      install Lan Automatic Inventory over an existing copy of the product
  81. b.      install Lan Automatic Inventory in a different directory but import 
  82.     data from a previous copy LAN Inventory into the new LANINV directory
  83.  
  84. 6b.     Select an option from the Install Options dialog box
  85.     The dialog box gives you the following options for upgrading.
  86.  
  87.     a.      Upgrade from Lan Automatic Inventory 3.1x or LAN Automatic 
  88.         Inventory 3.11
  89.     b.      Upgrade from Lan Automatic Inventory 1.0 - 3.0x
  90.  
  91. The first option installs LAN Automatic Inventory into the same directory as 
  92. the previous copy of the product over a previous copy of the software in the 
  93. same directory.
  94. The second option installs Lan Automatic Inventory in a different directory.
  95.  
  96. 7b.     Enter the full path name to where Lan Automatic Inventory should be 
  97.     installed, and choose the OK button. N.B. The drive letter and full 
  98.     directory must coincide with the file sever you selected earlier. 
  99.     Lan Automatic Inventory will create the directory if it does not 
  100.     exist. The default drive letter is the first one found on the server 
  101.     you specified. LANINV is the default directory.
  102.  
  103.     If Lan Automatic Inventory already exists in the specified directory, 
  104.     an option box asks you whether or not you wish to overwrite this copy 
  105.     of Lan Automatic Inventory.
  106.  
  107. 8b.     Enter your company name, and choose the OK button. 
  108.     The company name must be between 1 and 20 characters in length.
  109.  
  110. 9b.     At the prompt, enter the path name for the existing copy of LAN 
  111.     Inventory and choose OK.  Lan Automatic Inventory verifies that 
  112.     you have a previous version of  the product`makes a duplicate copy 
  113.     of the files and then converts them to the Lan Automatic Inventory  
  114.     software.
  115.  
  116. 10b.    Choose the OK button in the information box indicating the successful
  117.     installation of  the product. View the Readme file for any updated 
  118.     product information. 
  119.  
  120. 11b.    A dialog box displays asking you if you want to restart Windows at 
  121.     this point. You must restart Windows to enable the changes that 
  122.     LAN Automatic Inventory made. Choose  the YES button to restart 
  123.     Windows.
  124.  
  125. N.B.    If you have upgraded to LAN Inventory from LAN Automatic Inventory 
  126.     v2.xx (and if you have installed LAN Inventory in your existing 
  127.     LAN Automatic Inventory v2.xx directory), you must re-inventory 
  128.     hardware only on each workstation (i.e. run EQUIP/MACEQUIP) 
  129.     before performing your initial LAN Inventory Audit. For all 
  130.     workstations that are not re-inventoried before performing the 
  131.     initial LAN Inventory audit, their inventory will be removed from
  132.     the baseline and reported as "missing". If you do not perform EQUIP 
  133.     prior to performing an audit, you will lose the information
  134.     on the PC's from the old database.
